Beverly Mason is a non-denomination wedding officiant who performs beautiful, heart-felt wedding ceremonies and elopements 7 days a week. Experienced, fun, friendly personality.

Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

Couples tell me that I have a way of delivering the ceremony with such feeling and emotion that it truly touches their hearts and that of their guests. I also provide so much more than just a ceremony. I become the person they go to for questions, ideas, coordinating, rehearsal, day-of situations, etiquette, and so much more. The bride and groom almost always HUG me goodbye, rather than a hand shake. :)

What do you like most about your job?

I love meeting so many fun and interesting people. Some of my best friends I met through performing their wedding. Guests and family members that still keep in touch with me through email, referrals from people who attended a wedding I performed, brides call me when they first find out they are expecting their first baby or send me photos as their family grows. Of course many couples I never see again but others may stay in my life forever. There is always a reason why our paths in life crossed.

What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

"We would rather not have a religious ceremony, is that ok?"
Of course! There are many reasons that couples request this. Perhaps their families come from different religious backgrounds, or their guests are all of mixed faiths. Whatever the reason, there are many beautiful and meaningful ceremonies that celebrate love and marriage without any religious reference.

If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A good wedding officiant can help you with so much. From referring qualified vendors for all of your services to coordinating your rehearsal.
Your wedding minister should have an engaging personality and a voice that can be heard and clearly understood. A judge or Clerk may be cheaper but they don't generally work in or with the industry. Experience, reputation and skill is what you should look for.

Do you have a favorite story from your work?

Yes, the couple that I married 3 times!
(ok, the first was the official one) I performed a private ceremony for them with only 2 witnesses on the anniversary of their first date.
The second was the wedding day ceremony in front of their friends, family and children. A beautiful ceremony that included a hand fasting ceremony and family Unity Sand ceremony with the children.
The third, was another private ceremony with just the couple, to complete the hand fasting tradition of "A year and a Day" after the handfasting. My assistant and I provided incredible photography also to all 3 ceremonies with DVD slideshows with music, printed photo books and CD's with all of the images.

What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

I wish they understood that the officiant needs to be booked as soon as is possible. Usually 6-9 months at least, to guarantee your wedding date is available. Many couples think it's a last minute thing but then learn that the preferred officiants are no longer available for their wedding date.

What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

Do your research. Read reviews. Go with experience. Choose the one that you feel comfortable and relaxed with. That feeling will help you get through the most nervous part of the day... the ceremony!

How did you decide to get in your line of work?

I LOVE weddings! Always have. When I received my ministerial authority, a co-worker asked me to perform a quick elopement for her son. It was with 1 hour notice. LOL. Within the next 2 months I was asked to perform about 30 more elopements. Then I was getting referrals for larger weddings. I was so happy performing marriages that I decided to quit my government job of 10 years and just perform weddings. It's so rewarding to have a "job" that makes you and so many others smile! Over the years I have learned so much about weddings, planning, ceremony styles and options. I love it when couples want to be creative and style their wedding after their own personalities.

What are your most common types of jobs?

Weddings. Elopements. Vow Renewals. Commitment Ceremonies. I certainly welcome LGBT weddings of course.

I also find myself being:
The coordinator
The Photographer
The person all the children gravitate to.
The answer person.
And much more.

Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

I formed a wedding network so that wedding professionals in all services can meet, refer, learn, share and improve their services with the help of others. It's called NW Wed Pro. www.nwwedpro.com  I also produced 4 Bridal Fairs for the group.  www.NwBridalFair.com
Knowing the other vendors at weddings and being familiar with the venues is important. It can make the entire wedding go smoothly.

If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

Be sure that you are a good public speaker. You are comfortable meeting hundreds of new people in any given week. You work completely flexible hours and have no weekends off.
